Three former Alpharetta High School Raiders are heading into the NFL regular season on active rosters this fall, giving the program plenty to cheer about as cut-down weekend wrapped up Sunday.
Jaycee Horn, the Carolina Panthers cornerback and 2021 first-round pick (8th overall) out of South Carolina, is back as a starter for Carolina, which listed him first among five cornerbacks on its initial 53-man roster. Horn has made two straight Pro Bowls and posted a career-high five interceptions in 2025, tied for second-most in the NFL. His father, Joe Horn, played 12 NFL seasons as a wide receiver. The Panthers open their season Sunday, Sept. 13, hosting the Chicago Bears at Bank of America Stadium.
Quarterback Joshua Dobbs, a 2012 Alpharetta graduate, locked down the No. 2 job behind Jared Goff with the Detroit Lions after a strong preseason finale against Indianapolis on Aug. 29, going 15-for-19 for 128 yards and two touchdowns without a turnover or a sack. "I thought Dobbs really played well today... I thought he really showed out and I just love his composure and conviction. He knows what he wants and we scored," Lions coach Dan Campbell said afterward. Dobbs, 31, has now played for nine NFL franchises since the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted him in the fourth round in 2017, and signed with Detroit after Teddy Bridgewater's retirement. As a senior at Alpharetta, Dobbs threw for 3,625 yards and 29 touchdowns. The Lions open their season at home against the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.
Long snapper William Wagner, 25, went undrafted out of Michigan in 2025 but made the Cincinnati Bengals' initial roster again this year, grouped with kicker Evan McPherson and punter Ryan Rehkow in the team's specialists unit. Wagner recorded 137 long snaps without an unplayable delivery as a rookie last season.
Alpharetta principal Michael Scheifflee marked the milestone with a trio of posts on his own X account, congratulating each alum individually: Horn for "returning as a starter for the Carolina Panthers," Dobbs for "making the Detroit Lions' initial 53-man roster," and Wagner for "earning a spot on the Cincinnati Bengals' initial 53-man roster." "Once a Raider, always a Raider," Scheifflee wrote.
