Milton's Legacy Park remains closed after the end-of-August completion target for its summer renovation came and went without a reopening announcement from the city.

The 8.5-acre athletic complex at 170 Cox Road shut down June 9 after City Council approved a construction contract with Summit Construction and Development on June 1. The project expands the parking lot from 65 to 127 paved spaces, replacing the old gravel surface with asphalt. Crews are also replacing the septic system, improving stormwater detention, adding lighting and building a spectator seating wall.

A planned Legacy Wall will honor late members of the local athletic community.

The city's July 16 progress update described the work as progressing well and on track for an end-of-August finish. The original June 8 closure notice set a broader target of September 2026.

The park's turf fields host Hopewell Youth Association baseball, North Georgia Rec and Eagle Stix lacrosse, and NAFL football. The Roundabout reported in June that fall programs like football and soccer would feel the biggest squeeze, since preseasons overlap with the construction window.

No specific reopening date or ribbon-cutting has been announced.
