The Alpharetta Raiders boys cross country team qualified for the GHSA State Finals after a sectional meet Saturday, Oct. 31.
The program's athletics account on X announced the boys squad advanced to the state championship in Carrollton, calling the race "filled with PRs and excitement." Individual results and finishing places were not available at publication.
On the girls side, the team's season ended at sectionals. But Mia Carcione kept running.
Carcione finished in the top 20 to qualify individually for the State Finals, according to a post by @Scheifflee_AHS on X. The post also congratulated the girls team on an "outstanding season."
Both the boys team and Carcione will race at the GHSA 6A State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Carrollton course. The 6A boys race is scheduled for 8 a.m., with the 6A girls race at 8:45 a.m., according to the GHSA championship page. Tickets are available through GoFan.
The Raiders won't be the only local program in Carrollton. Milton's boys and girls teams both qualified for the 6A state meet after the same Oct. 31 sectional, Patch reported. Milton coach Andy Carr said the boys captured their third consecutive region championship and the girls finished as region runners-up.
The top four finishing teams at the state meet earn a trophy.
