A nearly 4,500-square-foot virtual reality venue opens at Alpharetta City Center on Saturday, July 18. North Fulton residents now have a place to battle through Squid Game challenges, explore Stranger Things worlds, and walk among dinosaurs in downtown Alpharetta.

Sandbox VR, which operates more than 85 locations worldwide, chose the 26-acre mixed-use development for its third Georgia location. The company already runs venues at The Battery Atlanta and The Interlock.

"Sandbox VR is an exciting addition to Alpharetta City Center and another example of the unique experiences we're bringing to downtown Alpharetta," said Lisa Carter, property manager for Alpharetta City Center. "It offers residents, visitors and businesses a one-of-a-kind destination where people can celebrate, connect and create lasting memories."

Grand opening festivities

The Saturday ribbon-cutting celebration will feature live music from DJ Smash Kash and an appearance by "Sara," a life-sized remote-controlled animatronic baby Triceratops inspired by the company's Age of the Dinosaurs experience. Visitors can take photos with Sara throughout the event.

The venue holds a soft opening on Friday, July 17, with the full public celebration the following day.

What's inside

The Alpharetta location features four private VR rooms where groups of up to six players suit up with motion sensors, haptic vests, and custom headsets. Unlike stationary VR setups, the technology uses full-body motion capture so players can walk around, interact with teammates, and explore virtual environments together.

Nine experiences will be available at launch, including Squid Game Virtuals and Stranger Things: Catalyst, both created in partnership with Netflix and exclusive to Sandbox VR. Age of the Dinosaurs was developed with London's Natural History Museum. Other titles include Rebel Moon: The Descent, Curse of Davy Jones, Amber Sky 2088, Deadwood Valley, Deadwood PHOBIA, and Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire.

Every session ends with a personalized cinematic highlight video.

The venue also includes a dedicated party room and event packages for birthdays, school groups, corporate team-building, and private celebrations.

Location and design

The lease was announced in March. The Alpharetta location features Netflix-inspired design in its lobby and waiting areas, distinguishing it from the company's Battery Atlanta and Interlock venues, according to CityBiz.

The venue is positioned to serve North Fulton County and surrounding North Georgia communities.
