Milton is developing a plan to guide trash collection, recycling and solid waste disposal over the next decade, with its Sustainability Advisory Committee helping shape the recommendations.
The committee was scheduled to continue reviewing the Recycling and Solid Waste Management Plan on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 5 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers, according to a city announcement.
City staff and consulting partner NewGen Strategies and Solutions are working with the appointed committee to develop the plan. Its goals include improving the consistency and efficiency of waste collection while advancing Milton’s sustainability efforts.
The plan would not itself change ordinances, authorize spending or change who collects residents’ trash and recycling.
Implementing recommendations would require separate action. Spending proposals would go through the city’s public budgeting process, and only the City Council could approve changes to collection arrangements, according to the city’s project page.
The committee, which has seven appointed positions, advises city staff and elected officials on environmental policies, programs and initiatives. Its members are selected by the mayor and council members.
The new document would update Milton’s 2008–2018 Solid Waste Management Plan, which identified service gaps and outlined goals for improving trash and recycling operations. The committee was scheduled to review the new draft at its Sept. 8 meeting, according to a September announcement.
The planning effort comes as Milton maintains Gold status in the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Green Communities program. ARC announced the city’s recertification on Jan. 14, 2026, as part of a round recognizing nine communities for sustainability efforts.
The committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10. Residents can check the city calendar for meeting details and attend public sessions to share feedback.
City Hall is at 2006 Heritage Walk. Residents can also send questions or comments about the plan to [email protected].
