The Fulton County Board of Commissioners approved a $284,800 agreement Wednesday, Sept. 2, to relocate water mains along Milton's Crabapple Multiuse Trail.

The intergovernmental agreement (IGA) covers water main work along SR 372/Crabapple Road and Green Road, where the city is building a concrete multiuse trail through its downtown Crabapple area. The IGA was listed as an action item under Health and Human Services at the county's Sept. 2 meeting and was approved. The agenda does not record a roll-call vote.

Commissioners present included Chairman Robb Pitts, Vice Chair Khadijah Abdur-Rahman, and Commissioners Bridget Thorne, Ellis, Dana Barrett and Arrington.

The estimated $284,800 covers the cost of moving water infrastructure that sits in the trail's planned route. The agreement does not specify which government bears the expense, according to available county records.

Milton's City Council awarded a construction contract to CMC, Inc. for the trail in October 2025, according to city records. That agreement calls for a concrete path between Parkview Drive and Arbor North Drive along Crabapple Road, and between Lecoma Trace and Waterside Drive along parts of Crabapple and Green roads. The project is funded through the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST).

The trail runs through the same Crabapple Road-Green Road corridor where other infrastructure projects are underway. A new traffic signal at that intersection, installed by the Georgia Department of Transportation, was set for activation Aug. 12 after an initial July 30 date was delayed. Milton's City Council also unanimously approved on Jan. 22 an application for $1 million in federal funding to pursue preliminary engineering for a roundabout at the same intersection, according to city records.

"As someone who passes and traverses that every day, it is well needed," Councilmember Brian Dolan said on Jan. 22, when the council voted on the roundabout funding application. "So I'm glad we're getting to a resolution on this."

At the same Sept. 2 meeting, commissioners approved two easement dedications for the Brookside Village Phase 1 project in Alpharetta: a 1,330-square-foot water vault easement at 3625 Brookside Parkway and a 3,955-square-foot sewer easement at Old Milton Parkway.

Both passed on the consent agenda.

No construction timeline for the Crabapple trail has been publicly announced. The Milton Trails Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, Oct. 22, from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m.
