Two 17-year-old Canton teens face aggravated battery charges after allegedly beating an 18-year-old concertgoer in the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre parking lot, leaving him with broken facial bones and dental injuries.
Alpharetta police said officers were dispatched to the venue at 2200 Encore Parkway about 4:45 a.m. Oct. 3 for an assault that had occurred roughly six hours earlier, Appen Media first reported. The amphitheater had hosted a Treaty Oak Revival concert the evening of Friday, Oct. 2.
The victim, an 18-year-old man from Clemson, South Carolina, told officers he and friends had visited Alpharetta for the show. He said they were sitting in their truck and preparing to leave when the two Canton teens got out of a nearby truck and approached them.
The victim said he could not remember anything after the teens pushed him out of his truck.
A friend's video captured what happened next. The footage showed one of the suspects pinning the victim's wrist with a cowboy boot and punching his face with a closed fist six times, according to the police report. The video also showed the second teen walking over and punching the victim's nose before both suspects left in their truck.
Officers identified the two suspects as 17-year-olds from Canton after running the truck's registration and calling one suspect's father, according to the report.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital. Physicians found he had suffered broken bones in his face and nose along with dental injuries.
Officers said he was covered in blood.
Both teens were charged with aggravated battery. The charges are allegations, and the teens are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Whether the case will be handled in juvenile or superior court was not specified in the police report.
The Treaty Oak Revival concert at the amphitheater was scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 2. The police report does not specify whether the suspects attended the concert or what prompted the confrontation.
