Milton residents can apply for the city's 2027 Citizens Government Academy, an eight-week program that puts participants face-to-face with the officials and staff who run city departments.

The city announced Oct. 27 that applications are open for the program, commonly called CGA. Sessions start in late January and run every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. over eight weeks, wrapping up in early spring, according to the city's announcement.

Space is limited.

Each class is capped at 20 participants, and applicants must be at least 18 years old and either a Milton resident or business leader, according to the city's CGA program page.

Classes meet from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at City Hall and other government buildings around Milton. Through presentations and hands-on projects, participants learn about emergency services, law enforcement, planning and zoning, finance and budget, court systems, public works, parks and recreation and other city functions. Instructors rotate weekly depending on the department being covered.

That class began Feb. 3, 2026, when Mayor Peyton Jamison welcomed participants and City Manager Steve Krokoff and Deputy City Manager Stacey Inglis introduced the city's government structure.

The program has a track record of filling up. The city said each class routinely fills all its spots and urged applicants to submit early. In a November 2025 post about the 2026 cycle, the city noted that the roster already included people who had tried to join in previous years but couldn't because of limited space.

Emily Salerno, Milton's community outreach manager, handles questions about the program. She can be reached at [email protected] or 678-242-2533.

Residents can apply on the city's CGA page. No specific deadline has been announced, but the city advised applying while space remains.
