Amasa Mexican Kitchen, a Baja-inspired seafood restaurant from the team behind Atlanta's Chichería Mexican Kitchen, will open in mid-August at 15 Academy St., Suite 1E, inside Alpharetta City Center.

The restaurant is on track for a mid-August debut, according to Rough Draft Atlanta's July 30 roundup. It occupies the former Jekyll Brewing space in downtown Alpharetta's growing restaurant corridor.

Owner Juan Calle operates four concepts through his hospitality group TQM Hospitality, including Buena Vida Tapas, Chichería Mexican Kitchen, and The Silver Dollar. Amasa is his first venture in Alpharetta.

The menu is entirely gluten-free, built around seafood and house-made organic blue corn tortillas ground and pressed fresh daily. A dedicated tequila room will pour premium margarita flights, and Sunday brunch takes the form of a cazuela buffet inspired by Mexico City's culinary traditions. A children's menu rounds out the offerings.

"Bringing Amasa to Alpharetta is incredibly exciting for us," Calle said in an April profile by Rough Draft Atlanta. "We're building on what guests already love about Chichería, while introducing new experiences, from our seafood-forward menu to our tequila program and live entertainment."

The two-level layout splits communal tables upstairs for a social atmosphere from two private dining rooms downstairs. Evenings will feature live jazz, saxophone performances, and Spanish singer-songwriters. The restaurant also plans multi-course tasting dinners, tequila education classes, and dance lessons.

Amasa has already made an impression locally. The restaurant tied for Best Entrée at the 34th Annual Taste of Alpharetta on May 14, competing against 72 other restaurants in front of more than 25,000 attendees, according to the Alpharetta Convention & Visitors Bureau. On July 13, Amasa hosted a pop-up dinner at The Standard at Alpharetta to give residents an early taste of the menu.

The opening adds another independent restaurant to a downtown strip that has welcomed Little Alley Steak, Saj, OneDayinParis, and Giulia Italian Bakery this year, as we reported July 21.

Diners can catch Amasa next at Grand Tasting Alpharetta on Thursday, August 27, at the Hotel at Avalon. General admission tickets are $95 per person, with a two-pack deal at $85 per person available through Saturday, August 15.
