According to the NMSC, about 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth roughly $24 million will be awarded in spring 2027. Three types are available: 2,500 scholarships of $2,500 each, awarded by state; about 700 corporate-sponsored awards from roughly 120 businesses; and approximately 3,500 college-sponsored scholarships funded by about 140 universities.
About 95% of semifinalists are expected to advance to Finalist status, according to the NMSC. Finalists will be notified in February. Scholarship winners will be announced in four rounds beginning in April 2027 and concluding in July 2027.
