Downtown Alpharetta has a new entertainment option: Sandbox VR opened its doors at Alpharetta City Center on Saturday, July 18, with a grand opening celebration that featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music from DJ Smash Kash, and a life-sized animatronic Triceratops named Sara roaming the venue.
The nearly 4,500-square-foot space is Sandbox VR's third Georgia location, joining existing venues at The Battery Atlanta and The Interlock. It marks the company's first footprint in North Fulton County.
"Sandbox VR is an exciting addition to Alpharetta City Center and another example of the unique experiences we're bringing to downtown Alpharetta," Lisa Carter, property manager for Alpharetta City Center, said in a statement published by Fulton Neighbor on Monday, July 20.
What's inside
The venue features four private VR arenas where groups of up to six players suit up with motion sensors, haptic vests, and custom headsets. Unlike standard VR setups, players physically walk and interact with each other inside the game environments.
Sandbox VR operates more than 85 locations across 12 countries and has surpassed $300 million in lifetime sales since its 2016 founding, according to a company press release issued Wednesday, July 15. The Alpharetta venue was developed in partnership with AplosVR Corp.
Nine experiences are available at launch, including Squid Game Virtuals and Stranger Things: Catalyst, both developed with Netflix, plus Age of the Dinosaurs, created alongside the Natural History Museum of London. Other titles include Deadwood Valley, Deadwood PHOBIA, Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire, Amber Sky 2088, Curse of Davy Jones, and Rebel Moon: The Descent.
A dedicated party and event room offers customizable packages for birthdays, corporate team building, school groups, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and holiday celebrations.
