Republican Bárbara Rivera Holmes is seeking a full term as Georgia labor commissioner in the Nov. 3, 2026, election against Democrat Nikki Porcher.
Gov. Brian Kemp appointed Holmes, who was sworn in April 4, 2025. Her official biography identifies her as Georgia’s first Latina constitutional officer and describes earlier leadership of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce.
Benefits and workforce services
Her campaign platform emphasizes modernizing unemployment-insurance systems, improving claims processing and call-center service, reducing fraud and strengthening connections between employers and job seekers.
She also advocates partnerships with colleges, workforce boards and training programs to connect residents with higher-wage careers. These are stated priorities and descriptions of her administration’s work, not guarantees of specific jobs or benefit-processing times.
Authority and implementation
The Department of Labor administers unemployment insurance and reemployment services. Agency operations can directly affect residents seeking benefits and employers seeking workers.
The commissioner cannot independently enact all statewide wage or workforce-funding laws. Changes involving legislation, appropriations or partner agencies require their participation. The campaign materials reviewed do not give a complete new budget or quantified household savings for these priorities.
The Alpharetta-Milton Chronicle did not receive a direct questionnaire response from the candidate and does not endorse candidates.
