Milton High School cracked the top 10 in Georgia Public Broadcasting's statewide ranking of high school football's best recruiting programs, published Friday, Sept. 4.
The Eagles placed No. 10 with a team score of 602.72 points, according to GPB Sports writer Matt Stewart. The ranking tallied each program's rated prospects using the Rivals Industry composite, which draws from Rivals, ESPN and 247 Sports evaluations. Milton was the only program from the Alpharetta-Milton area on the list.
Stewart identified four-star tight end Grant Haviland as Milton's highest-rated prospect. Haviland, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound junior who wears No. 88, is rated as high as the No. 1 tight end in the Class of 2027 by ESPN. He committed to Vanderbilt on April 14, choosing the Commodores over Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee and Clemson, according to Sports Illustrated.
In his junior season, Haviland posted 24 receptions for 343 yards and four touchdowns across 11 games, averaging 14.3 yards per catch, according to 247Sports. He is a Under Armour All-American selection.
Milton's roster carries three four-star and four three-star recruits in the GPB tally. Both Haviland and quarterback Derrick Baker were named to the Atlanta TD Club preseason All-State team on Aug. 11, according to the program's official account on X.
The ranking comes after Milton won back-to-back GHSA state championships in 2023 and 2024. Stewart wrote that the 2024 team "finished as the highest ranked public school football program in the country that year."
Buford topped the list at 1,450.71 points. Its highest-rated prospect currently playing is four-star edge rusher Luke Nabors, who holds 31 college offers. Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster, the nation's No. 1 overall prospect, transferred to Buford from Cedar Hill, Texas in late August, but his move had not been cleared by the GHSA at the time of publication.
On the field, head coach Ben Reaves' Eagles stand at 2-1 and No. 4 in the GPB Sports Class 6A Top 10 as of the Monday, Sept. 7 rankings update. Quarterback Baker threw for 318 yards and five touchdowns in a 53-21 win over Cambridge in Milton's most recent game, according to SI's Georgia Top 25 rankings.
Milton travels to Battle Ground Academy in Tennessee on Friday, Sept. 11, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. ET.
