Drivers who've been detouring around Mid Broadwell Road since late May should be able to use the route again starting Sunday, July 26, 2026.

The City of Alpharetta closed the road at the creek crossing just west of Jennifer Oaks Drive on Tuesday, May 26, to replace an aging culvert that had undergone multiple repairs and no longer met the city's standards. The project was identified through Alpharetta's Stormwater System Assessment, according to the city's official project notice.

The two-month closure blocked only pass-through traffic at the construction site. Residents and businesses along Mid Broadwell Road kept 24/7 access to their properties throughout, with a signed detour routing drivers around the work zone.

New sidewalk fills gap

The culvert wasn't the only upgrade. The city also installed new sidewalk along the south side of Mid Broadwell Road between Bethany Road and Jennifer Oaks Drive, closing a gap in the pedestrian network and creating a continuous walking route to Mid Broadwell Park, according to the city's project notice.

The full project title on public bid records is "Mid Broadwell Culvert & Sidewalk Construction."

Reopening details

Reopening restores a connection between the Birmingham Highway area and central Alpharetta. The reopening date was first reported by the North Atlanta Star on Thursday, July 23. Drivers should confirm the road's status before switching back to their usual route; final inspections and weather can shift construction timelines.
