Lindsay DeFranco, a Democrat, is running against Republican Jack Miller for Georgia House District 47 in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election, according to Fulton County’s sample ballot.

In a candidate questionnaire, DeFranco said her campaign grew out of years spent following legislation, attending hearings and testifying at the Capitol.

“Eventually, I realized showing up isn’t enough,” she said.

She said she wants to reduce political polarization and focus on the costs facing families.

Background and experience

DeFranco said she is vice president of Rogue Rocket, an independent news network she and her husband, Philip, created. She said they have two sons: Philip III, known as Trey, who is 12, and Carter, who is 9.

She attended Barnwell Elementary, Haynes Bridge Middle and Centennial High School, graduating from high school a year early, according to her questionnaire response.

DeFranco said she later attended the University of West Georgia and took courses at Santa Monica College and Los Angeles Valley College. Most recently, she said, she studied world history and politics through Southern New Hampshire University.

She reported no previous elected or appointed office.

DeFranco cited business leadership, public communication and nonprofit work as preparation for serving in the Legislature. She said she co-founded a media literacy nonprofit and served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in foster care.

Her BallotReady profile lists her as co-founder and program director of Not So Fast from 2019 to 2020. Georgia Conservation Voters lists her among its endorsed candidates.

Taxes, education and healthcare

DeFranco said further income-tax rate reductions should not be Georgia’s immediate priority.

“I’m focused on lowering the total cost of living,” she said in the questionnaire.

She argued that tax savings can be outweighed by increases in property taxes, insurance and other household expenses.

On her campaign website, DeFranco advocates stronger public-school funding, lower childcare costs and support for afterschool, summer and weekend programs.

Her BallotReady profile states that she supports Medicaid expansion, greater transparency in medical pricing and coverage that helps patients receive care before health problems become emergencies.

Elections and House leadership

DeFranco said she would approach further changes to Fulton County’s elections board cautiously. She said proposals should address documented problems and preserve impartial election administration.

She said she would want evidence explaining the problem, the proposed solution and how the change would improve elections.

Asked about the next House speaker election, DeFranco said she would support the House Democratic leader if Democrats win enough seats. She said she would seek committee assignments involving education, healthcare, insurance and household costs.

Candidate responses were collected through the Alpharetta-Milton Chronicle and Surround Sound News candidate questionnaire. Responses have been excerpted or paraphrased for length. Biographical statements and policy positions are attributed to DeFranco unless otherwise sourced.
