Milton's prized offseason addition won't suit up for the Eagles' Aug. 21 opener unless an appeal succeeds. The Georgia High School Association ruled sophomore kicker Ryan Jung ineligible for the 2026 season, according to Appen Media, stripping the nation's No. 1-ranked kicker from a roster that finished 8-4 a year ago.

Jung, a University of Michigan commit rated the top kicker in the class of 2028 by Kohl's Professional Camps, transferred to Milton from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he spent his freshman year. Head coach Ben Reaves confirmed the ruling to On3 on Wednesday, Aug. 5, and said Jung plans to appeal with multiple attempts remaining.

The dispute centers on GHSA By-Law 1.62, which governs transfer eligibility. Under the rule, a transfer student must demonstrate a "bona fide move," defined as the student relocating simultaneously with the entire parental unit into the new school's service area. Without it, the student is classified as a "migrant" and barred from varsity play for one calendar year.

Jung's family came to Milton from three different locations. His mother and sister moved from the Nashville area, his father from Duluth and Ryan himself from Florida, according to BroBible. The family reportedly has a signed sale agreement for a home in Milton's attendance zone, but because they did not all depart the same address, the GHSA determined no single bona fide move occurred.

Jung's camp believes a different section of the same bylaw should apply. By-Law 1.62(c) grants immediate eligibility to a student transferring from a non-member school to the GHSA member school serving his area of residence, provided it is the student's first such move and he has never established eligibility at a GHSA member school. IMG Academy is not a GHSA member. Jung has never played for a Georgia member school.

The case raises a structural question about boarding-school transfers. The commentary site Fired Football Coaches of Georgia argues the bona fide move standard is impossible for any boarding-school student to satisfy, because IMG does not allow families to live on campus. The student and parents could never have shared an address at the former school.

At IMG during the 2025 season, Jung connected on four of five field goal attempts with a long of 46 yards, made 50 of 52 extra points and recorded 36 touchbacks on 66 kicks across nine games. He committed to Michigan earlier this summer.

Milton finished the 2025 season ranked No. 18 in the Georgia Massey Rankings. The Eagles open 2026 on Aug. 21, and the GHSA's decision on Jung's appeal will determine whether the program's highest-profile recruit takes the field that night.
