Eight schools serving Alpharetta and Milton families could face consolidation under a Fulton County Schools review, the district's chief operating officer confirmed at the first public redistricting forum Wednesday, Sept. 30.

COO Noel Maloof drew a sharp line between the district's two redistricting regions at the meeting, held at Langston Hughes High School in South Fulton. He told attendees that Region A, covering South Fulton, faces only boundary adjustments and no closures. Region C, the North Fulton area that feeds Alpharetta High, Milton High and Cambridge High, is a different story.

Maloof said enrollment decline in Region C is far steeper than in South Fulton, as first reported by WSB-TV. "We are considering consolidation in Region C, and that will be part of the process," he said.

Four elementary schools are under review: Esther Jackson, Hembree Springs, Mimosa and Vickery Mill. Four middle schools are also being evaluated: Autrey Mill, Elkins Pointe, Haynes Bridge and Holcomb Bridge. The district's redistricting page lists all eight.

No closures or zone changes have been approved.

Maloof said the district wants community feedback before drawing any maps, a lesson from last year's closures of Parklane and Spalding Drive elementary schools. He said the district has streamlined the process to start with community input before deep planning begins.

The Fulton County Board of Education voted Sept. 17 to authorize a review of elementary school capacity in Region C, citing declining enrollment and underutilized facilities, according to the board's bulletin. A preliminary analysis from the North Atlanta Star identified Haynes Bridge and Holcomb Bridge as middle schools that could gain or lose attendance territory, while Autrey Mill and Elkins Pointe could receive additional students.

On the elementary side, Esther Jackson and Hembree Springs may gain territory. Mimosa could lose territory, and Vickery Mill could go either way.

District projections estimate 17,221 elementary students and 8,710 middle school students in Region C by the 2030-31 school year.

The next forum for North Fulton families covers middle schools: Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Centennial High School. Elementary forums will be held at Roswell High School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Both reviews are expected to reach a final board vote Feb. 25, 2027.
