Erin Nusnbaum, a nearly 20-year Fulton County Schools veteran who started as a classroom teacher, will lead the superintendent's office as its new executive director.
The Fulton County Board of Education approved Nusnbaum's promotion at its Thursday, Sept. 17, meeting at the South Learning Center. She moves up from Director of Policy Management, a role she held within the same office under Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. The position puts her in charge of coordinating district-wide initiatives across all Fulton County Schools (FCS) campuses, including Alpharetta High School, Milton High School and Cambridge High School.
FCS enrolls more than 83,000 students as Georgia's fourth-largest school system.
In her previous role, Nusnbaum led high-priority projects, coordinated work across multiple district divisions and managed the policy process with the Board of Education. She also oversaw efforts to gather feedback from families, students, employees and community members on district decisions, according to the district's announcement.
The district said her approach centers on making day-to-day operations smoother for schools, leaders, staff and students. That philosophy will now apply at a broader scale as she takes on the executive director title.
Nusnbaum holds three graduate degrees. She earned a Master of Management Studies in Public Education Management from the Yale School of Management, an Education Specialist in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University and a Master of Education in Elementary Education from the University of Florida.
She and her husband, Matt, have two children in Fulton County Schools. Their son Ezra is a sixth grader and their daughter Ella is a second grader.
Nusnbaum was one of two appointments the board approved at the same meeting. Jessica Lundy was named principal of Haynes Bridge Middle School.
No start date for Nusnbaum's new role has been announced.
