Crabapple Road will shut down at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, for Crabapple Fest setup, and Milton drivers will need alternate routes through Saturday night.
The closure runs between the Heritage Walk/Crabapple Chase Drive roundabout and the Mayfield Road/Broadwell Road/Birmingham Highway intersection, according to the City of Milton. Lecoma Trace will also close between Heritage Walk and the south end of the Crabapple Market Green. Crews need the space to set up large tents, a temporary stage and vendor booths.
Roads should reopen around 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, after breakdown and cleanup wrap up.
SAT testing overlaps with festival
Milton High School is an SAT test site Saturday morning, the same day Crabapple Fest runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The city urged families to pre-plot their route and leave extra time, noting the scheduling overlap is a recurring pattern.
Detour options
The city listed three alternate routes:
- Heritage Walk: a primary detour, though drivers should watch for pedestrians crossing during the festival
- Broadwell Road toward Rucker Road
- Birmingham Highway toward Dorris Road and New Providence Road
Even drivers whose usual commute avoids the closed stretch should expect heavier traffic across the Crabapple area on both Friday and Saturday, the city said.
What to know about Crabapple Fest
The festival fills Crabapple Road with more than 100 antique, craft and art vendors. Additional activities spread across the Crabapple Market Green and the City Hall parking lot, according to the city's event page. The event is rain or shine. Leashed pets are welcome.
The city describes Crabapple Fest as Milton's biggest annual event, one that regularly draws tens of thousands of visitors downtown.
