The Cambridge Bears are Region 6AAAAA softball champions.

Cambridge clinched the title Monday, Sept. 28, by sweeping Northview in a doubleheader on the road. The Bears won the opener 19-0 and took the second game 15-0, according to MaxPreps.

The sweep pushed Cambridge to 12-0 in region play at that point, completing an unbeaten run through the bulk of the Region 6AAAAA schedule.

The Cambridge Athletics account on X confirmed the championship after the doubleheader, noting plenty of season remains, including a Senior Night home game against Chattahoochee.

The region title caps a dominant stretch for head coach Mike Cason's squad. Cambridge entered the doubleheader at 18-3 overall and 10-0 in Region 6AAAAA play after a 7-4 win over Blessed Trinity on Thursday, Sept. 24. The Bears had won 10 of their last 11 games heading into the Northview series, according to a MaxPreps recap published Sept. 25.

Senior pitcher Lily Kimble, a Brown University commit, struck out seven in the Sept. 24 win over Blessed Trinity.

"Our pitcher, Lily [Kimble] just makes pitch after pitch, game after game," Cason said after that win, per 92.9 The Game. He added that the team found enough plays to close out the victory.

Kimble and the Bears carried that momentum into the Northview doubleheader three days later. Cambridge held a massive ranking edge heading in, sitting at No. 16 in Georgia compared to Northview's No. 372 in the MaxPreps rankings published Sept. 25.

As of Sept. 28, the Bears sit at No. 2 in Georgia Class 5A and No. 13 in Georgia overall in the MaxPreps rankings. Cambridge is also ranked No. 9 in the Atlanta media market.

The Bears beat Chattahoochee 16-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 29, for Senior Night. Cambridge hosts St. Pius X Catholic on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 5:30 p.m.
