Alpharetta residents can walk into City Hall on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m. and get face time with developers behind every active zoning proposal in the city, including the North Point Mall arena and smaller neighborhood projects.
The City of Alpharetta announced the Community Zoning Information Meeting on Tuesday, inviting the public to the Multi-Purpose Room at 2 Park Plaza. The informal, drop-in session requires no appointment. No votes are taken. City staff will be on hand to answer questions, and applicants must attend to present their plans directly to residents.
Alpharetta's Planning Commission voted 4-3 on Aug. 6 to recommend approval of Jamestown LP's plan to transform the roughly 99-acre North Point Mall site into a mixed-use sports and entertainment district anchored by a 20,000-seat NHL-ready arena. That proposal also includes a 2,000-seat community hockey rink, a 4,000-seat music hall, 1,385 for-rent apartments, 750,000 square feet of office space and two hotels totaling 700 rooms.
Wednesday's session is the last informal opportunity for residents to review the Jamestown plans before City Council holds its formal public hearing on Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m., also at City Hall.
The North Point project isn't the only case on the docket. Empire Homes' application to rezone 29.2 acres at 3842 Old Milton Parkway for 195 for-sale townhomes is also among active proposals, along with other rezoning requests and variances the city is processing.
The city held two earlier zoning information meetings focused specifically on the North Point district, on June 10 and July 8, before the Planning Commission hearing. As we reported Aug. 6, the commission's narrow vote sent the proposal to City Council with a recommendation for approval.
The CZIM is held the second Wednesday of each month. Residents who cannot attend in person can review current zoning cases and submit questions through the city's online portal at bit.ly/3S7pOhQ.
