An Alpharetta police officer found a Glock switch, morphine, Xanax and marijuana during a traffic stop Monday, Sept. 28. The stop near Mansell and Old Roswell roads led to 11 charges, the department announced Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The driver, who was not identified by police, faces five felony charges and six misdemeanor charges, according to Patch, which first reported the arrest. The reason for the initial stop has not been disclosed.

A Glock switch is a small device that converts a semiautomatic pistol into a fully automatic weapon. Federal law classifies the devices as machine guns. Possessing one without proper licensing can carry up to 10 years in federal prison, according to News4Jax.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) recovered more than 31,000 machine gun conversion devices in the five years before January 2024, the agency said in a public service announcement.

The Alpharetta Police Department said in a Facebook post that the stop showed how traffic enforcement removes illegal weapons and controlled substances from the community. The department said the seized items would no longer circulate in the area or reach other residents.

Police praised the arresting officer and urged residents to make responsible decisions.

The specific charges against the driver have not been released. No court date or arraignment has been announced.

Residents can report suspicious activity to the Alpharetta Police Department.
