Alpharetta property tax bills are arriving this week, with payments due Friday, Dec. 18, the city announced.
The bills are being issued under a Temporary Collection Order while Fulton County’s tax digest awaits certification by the Georgia Department of Revenue. Property owners could receive adjustments on a future bill, according to the city’s billing notice.
The December deadline applies to Alpharetta’s city taxes. Fulton County issued its own temporary bills in August with an Oct. 15 payment deadline for residents outside Atlanta.
Tax rate and homeowner relief
Alpharetta lists a combined rate of 5.750 mills for 2026, comprising 5.050 mills for city operations and 0.700 mills for voter-approved debt.
One mill equals $1 in tax per $1,000 of taxable value. Georgia generally assesses property at 40% of fair market value, with applicable exemptions reducing the amount subject to tax.
The city estimates its local homestead exemptions save homeowners more than $11 million annually. Including a one-time state Homeowner Tax Relief Grant credit, total relief exceeds $12.3 million this year, according to the city’s property tax page.
Eligible homeowners will see an HTRG credit on their bills. The program reduces qualifying properties’ assessed value by up to $18,000; it is not an $18,000 reduction in the amount owed.
Finding and paying a bill
Property owners can review tax information and make payments through the city’s online portal. The city advises owners who have not received a bill by Nov. 1 to look up their account online.
Because taxes are assessed based on ownership as of Jan. 1, people who bought property this year may receive a bill bearing the previous owner’s name.
