Alpharetta skaters will get a new park at Union Hill, with construction already underway on a $3.52 million renovation expected to open in May 2027.
The project grew out of community feedback gathered in 2020, when local skaters asked the city for a dedicated place to ride, Alpharetta-Milton Patch reported. The Alpharetta Recreation, Parks and Cultural Services Department said the work is funded by the 2021 parks bond.
The new facility will give riders a dedicated space to practice skills and use ramps at Union Hill, according to the city. The existing skate area will be repurposed as part of the broader renovation and will stay closed during construction.
Hazardous waste drop-off set for Nov. 7
Alpharetta residents can dispose of household hazardous waste for free at the city's collection day on Nov. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alpharetta Public Works, 1790 Hembree Road.
The City of Alpharetta said on X that residents should register for the event and review the full list of accepted materials on the city's website.
Accepted items include paint and paint-related products, old gasoline, household and automotive chemicals, garden chemicals, poisons, household fire extinguishers (limit of 15) and 16-ounce household propane cylinders, according to Patch.
The event is open only to residents living within Alpharetta city limits. Businesses are excluded.
